North Rhine-Westphalia’s printers lead the field

Berlin, November 6, 2008. A total of eight trophies from the Druck&Medien Awards 2008 were awarded to entrants from North Rhine-Westphalia on Thursday evening. No other federal German state received as many trophies at the prestigious prize ceremony. The companies Druckpartner from Essen and Druckstudio from Dusseldorf were the surprise joint winners of the “2008 Magazine Printer” category. Mohn media Mohndruck GmbH from Gütersloh won the prize for “most environmentally aware company of the year”.

For the fourth time, Hamburg-based trade magazine Druck&Medien staged the Druck&Medien Awards, recognizing German print and media companies for their outstanding performance. This time it was the turn of entrants from North Rhine-Westphalia to take home the most awards.

Awards went to Druckpartner Druck- und Medienhaus GmbH from Essen, Druckstudio GmbH from Dusseldorf, Kunst- und Werbedruck GmbH & Co. KG from Bad Oeynhausen, Wirtz Druck Gebrüder Schmidt OHG from Datteln, Service & Print Group Haberbeck from Lage, B.O.S.S Druck und Medien GmbH from Goch, Niggemeyer Bildproduktion GmbH & Co. KG from Bochum and Mohn Media Mohndruck GmbH from Gütersloh.

Some 500 representatives from the print and media industry came to Berlin including special guests of honour such as former British minister Lord Michael Heseltine, currently the owner of the Haymarket Media Group, and journalist Hellmuth Karasek. Once again the most prestigious print industry award boasted a record turnout.

In the words of Andrea Bötel, chief editor of Druck&Medien and head of the 21-member jury: “The enormous popularity of the Druck&Medien Awards in all areas of the printing industry shows how important this event is. This industry gathering has become a regular fixture for our market. We are happy and proud that we can give printing companies a boost in these difficult times. I would like to thank our sponsors in particular whose commitment has enabled us to stage such a key industry event.”

For the first time this year, two winners were awarded the “Magazine Printer of the Year” prize based on votes from the jury's secret ballot. Winners Druckpartner Druck- und Medienhaus GmbH from Essen and Druckstudio GmbH from Dusseldorf were very pleased with their success in this category.

The gala event staged in the large ballroom at the Hotel Grand Hyatt on Potsdamer Platz in Berlin was compered by TV presenter Ruth Moschner. Music was provided by “Three Waiters”.
